Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the importance of physical fitness and how it relates to horse riding, as well as demonstrate knowledge of basic safety practices while horse riding.

Materials and Prep

  • Horse riding helmet
  • Comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear
  • Access to a horse riding facility or a horse simulator
  • Water bottle
  • Internet access for research (optional)

Prior to the lesson, the student should have a basic understanding of horse riding and its benefits.

Activities

  1. Warm-up exercises: Start the lesson with a series of warm-up exercises to prepare the body for physical activity. This can include stretches, jumping jacks, and jogging in place.
  2. Research and discussion: Have the student research and discuss the physical benefits of horse riding. They can explore how it improves core strength, balance, and coordination.
  3. Safety demonstration: Demonstrate and explain the importance of wearing a helmet while horse riding. Show the student how to properly fit and secure a helmet.
  4. Practice riding skills: If access to a horse riding facility or a horse simulator is available, allow the student to practice basic riding skills under supervision. Focus on proper posture, balance, and control.
  5. Cool-down exercises: End the lesson with a cool-down routine, including stretches and deep breathing exercises to relax the body and prevent muscle soreness.
