Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have fun learning about following instructions like a police officer and improving their listening skills.
Materials and Prep
- Open space for movement
- Imagination
- Enthusiasm
No additional materials needed. Just be ready to have fun!
Activities
- Follow the Leader: Take turns being the "police officer" leading the other person around the room or yard. Use hand signals or simple commands like "stop" and "go".
- Red Light, Green Light: Pretend to be traffic lights by using red (stop), yellow (slow down), and green (go) signals. Have the student follow the signals just like cars on the road.
- Obstacle Course: Set up a simple obstacle course with cones or objects. The student has to follow your instructions to navigate the course, just like a police officer guiding traffic.
Talking Points
- "Hello! Today we are going to pretend to be police officers and learn how to follow instructions like them."
- "When the police officer says 'stop', we need to freeze just like a statue."
- "Can you show me how you would walk carefully like a police officer directing traffic?"
- "Great job! Police officers help keep us safe by giving us important instructions to follow."
