Objective

By the end of this lesson, Alfie will be able to recognize numbers and practice counting using his favorite cars.

Materials and Prep

Materials:

  • Toy cars
  • Number flashcards
  • Large paper or cardboard
  • Markers

Prep: Set up a simple race track using the paper or cardboard, and have the number flashcards ready for counting activities.

Activities

1. Car Race Counting: Line up the toy cars at the starting line of the race track. Have Alfie count each car as it moves along the track.

2. Number Matching: Place the number flashcards in random order. Ask Alfie to match each number with the corresponding number of toy cars.

3. Car Color Counting: Use different colored toy cars. Ask Alfie to count how many cars of each color there are.

Talking Points

  • Quotation: "Let's count how many cars are racing. One, two, three, go!"
  • Quotation: "Can you find the number that matches the cars? Let's match them together."
  • Quotation: "How many red cars do you see? Let's count them together."
