Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have improved their gross motor skills and coordination through fun car-themed physical activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Open space for movement
  • Imagination to pretend to drive cars

Activities

  • Race Car Run: Set up a "race track" using markers or lines on the ground. Have the student run around the track like a race car.
  • Car Wash Dance: Play music and have the student pretend to wash a car by dancing and moving their arms like they're scrubbing.
  • Stop and Go: Call out "stop" and "go" commands for the student to follow, pretending to drive a car and stopping at red lights.
  • Parking Lot Hop: Create "parking spots" using tape on the floor and have the student hop from spot to spot like a hopping car.

Talking Points

  • "Let's pretend we are race cars zooming around the track! Vroom vroom!"
  • "Now, let's dance and wash our cars to the music. Scrub scrub scrub!"
  • "When I say 'stop', we need to freeze like a parked car. And when I say 'go', we can drive again!"
  • "Hop from parking spot to parking spot like a bouncy car. Boing boing!"
