Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify different bugs and learn some fun facts about them!
Materials and Prep
- Magnifying glass
- Empty jar with holes in the lid
- Paper and crayons
- Outdoor space to explore
No prior knowledge required, just bring your curiosity!
Activities
- Go on a bug hunt in your yard or local park. Use the magnifying glass to get a closer look at the bugs you find.
- Catch a bug in the jar (gently!) and observe it for a few minutes before letting it go.
- Create bug rubbings by placing paper over different textured surfaces outside and rubbing crayons on top.
See if you can spot any ants, ladybugs, or butterflies!
What colors do you see on the bug? How many legs does it have?
What patterns do you see? Can you guess which bug made each pattern?
Talking Points
- Bugs are tiny creatures that live all around us.
- Bugs have different colors and shapes.
- Bugs help our environment by pollinating plants and breaking down dead matter.
