Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have explored the connections between Art, English, Math, and Physical Education in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: pencils, paper, art supplies, a book or story for reading, a small ball or bean bag for Physical Education activities.
Prep: Familiarize yourself with the chosen book or story, set up a comfortable workspace for art activities, and clear a space for physical activities.
Activities
1. Create an Artwork: Encourage the student to illustrate a scene from the book or story they read. This integrates Art and English.
2. Math in Art: Have the student count and record the number of different colors used in their artwork. Discuss patterns and shapes within the drawing.
3. Storytime Stretch: After reading the book, engage in a short Physical Education activity related to the story. For example, act out the movements of the characters or create a mini obstacle course.
Talking Points
- "Art allows us to express our creativity and imagination. How did you decide on the colors and shapes for your artwork?"
- "Math is everywhere, even in art! Counting the colors used helps us see patterns. Can you identify any patterns in your drawing?"
- "Physical activity is important for our bodies. How did moving around while acting out the story make you feel?"
