Objective
By the end of this lesson, your 1-year-old student will be able to explore and learn about flowers in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
- Assorted fresh flowers (roses, daisies, etc.)
- Small vases or cups for displaying flowers
- Water for the flowers
- Blank paper and non-toxic finger paint
- Child-safe scissors
- A magnifying glass (optional)
- Prepare a safe and comfortable workspace for the activities
Activities
- Exploring Flowers: Let your child touch and smell different flowers. Talk about the colors, shapes, and scents.
- Flower Arranging: Help your child place flowers in small vases or cups. Discuss how to take care of flowers by adding water.
- Finger Painting: Dip your child's fingers in non-toxic paint and let them create flower art on paper. Encourage creativity!
- Nature Walk: If possible, take a short walk outside to see real flowers growing. Use a magnifying glass to examine them up close.
Talking Points
- Flowers are pretty and smell nice. (Show a flower and say: "Look at this pretty flower! It smells so nice.")
- Flowers need water to stay fresh. (Demonstrate adding water to a vase and say: "Flowers drink water like we drink milk.")
- Each flower is unique with different colors and shapes. (Show different flowers and say: "This flower is red, and this one is yellow. They are all special.")
- When we touch flowers gently, we can feel how soft they are. (Guide the child to touch a flower and say: "Let's be gentle and touch the flower softly.")
