Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a fun and impressive dancing balls trick using styrofoam balls, aluminum foil, and plexi-glass.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: styrofoam balls, aluminum foil, plexi-glass, cloth. Make sure to have an area to keep the balls from escaping.

Preparation: Ensure all materials are ready and set up in a safe and organized manner before starting the activities.

Activities

1. Create the dancing balls setup by charging the plexi-glass plate and placing it over the styrofoam balls. Observe how they jump up and stick to the glass.

2. Experiment with different ways to make the balls move by interacting with the charged plate or introducing other materials like styrofoam plates or cups.

3. Try to control the movement of the balls by using your finger near the glass and observe how they react to your touch.

Talking Points

  • "When we charge the plexi-glass plate and place it over the balls, they jump up and stick to the bottom of the glass. It's like magic!"
  • "By putting your finger near the glass, you can make the balls start jumping around. It's like they are dancing!"
  • "Experimenting with different materials like styrofoam plates can make the balls shoot off or stick to the plate in surprising ways."
  • "Remember to always handle the materials safely and have fun exploring the world of science and tricks with dancing balls!"
