Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will learn how toys have changed over time and understand the differences between toys from the past and present.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: paper, coloring pencils, internet access.

Prep: None required, just bring your curiosity and imagination!

Activities

  • Draw and Compare: Draw your favorite toy and ask an adult to help you find a picture of a similar toy from the past. Compare the two toys and write down what is similar and different about them.
  • Toy Timeline: Create a timeline of toys, starting from the oldest to the newest. You can draw pictures or write the names of the toys on the timeline.
  • Interview a Family Member: Ask a family member about the toys they played with when they were your age. Compare their toys to yours and see how they have changed.

Talking Points

  • Toys in the Past: "Long ago, children played with simple toys like wooden dolls and handmade toys. They didn't have electronic gadgets like we do today."
  • Toys Today: "Nowadays, we have toys that can move, talk, and even interact with us. Technology has made our toys more exciting and fun to play with."
  • Changes Over Time: "Toys have changed a lot over the years. Just like how fashion changes, toys also evolve to fit the interests and needs of children in different time periods."
  • Imagination: "Even though toys have changed, one thing that will never change is the power of your imagination. You can turn a simple box into a spaceship or a stick into a magic wand!"
