- Gloves (optional)
- Water for rinsing
No prior knowledge required. Just be ready to explore and have fun!
Activities
- Go on a nature walk to find wild garlic plants. Encourage Elisabeth to look for plants with long, green leaves and a distinct garlic smell.
- Once wild garlic is found, show Elisabeth how to carefully pick a leaf and rinse it with water. Explain the importance of not eating any plants without an adult's approval.
- Guide Elisabeth to taste a small piece of wild garlic leaf. Discuss the taste and compare it to regular garlic. Ask Elisabeth how it makes her feel.
Talking Points
- Wild garlic is a plant that grows in nature. It has long, green leaves and smells like garlic. When we find it, we can pick a leaf to explore.
- "Look at this leaf, it's from a wild garlic plant! It smells like garlic. Let's be gentle when picking it."
- It's important to wash the leaf with water before tasting it. This helps remove any dirt or bugs that might be on it.
- "Now we rinse the leaf with water to make sure it's clean. See how clean and shiny it looks now?"
- When we taste the wild garlic, we can feel how it's different from the garlic we use in cooking. It's fun to try new flavors in nature.
- "Let's taste a tiny piece of this leaf. How does it taste? Is it similar to the garlic we use at home?"
