Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to throw a ball with accuracy and distance.

Materials and Prep

Materials:

  • A ball (any type will do)

Prep:

  • Make sure you have enough space to safely throw the ball without any obstacles.

Activities

1. Practice your throwing technique by standing a few feet away from a target (could be a tree, a wall, or a bucket).

2. Play catch with a family member or a friend. See how far apart you can stand and still successfully throw and catch the ball.

3. Create a mini "throwing challenge" course in your backyard, where you have to throw the ball through different obstacles.

Talking Points

  • When you throw a ball, it's important to stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Say: "Feet apart, ready to start!"
  • Hold the ball with your dominant hand and bring it close to your ear. Say: "Near my ear, no need to fear!"
  • As you throw, step forward with your opposite foot and swing your throwing arm forward. Say: "Step and swing, like a king!"
  • Release the ball when your arm is fully extended and follow through with your arm. Say: "Release and follow, watch it go!"
