Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and name different types of trucks, improve reading skills through truck-related activities, and develop an appreciation for books and reading.
Materials and Prep
- Truck picture books
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Read Aloud: Start by reading a truck-themed picture book to the student. Encourage them to listen carefully and ask questions about the illustrations and the story.
- Truck Collage: Provide the student with construction paper, scissors, glue, and markers or crayons. Ask them to cut out pictures of trucks from magazines or print them from the internet. Help them glue the truck pictures onto the construction paper and decorate the collage with markers or crayons.
- Truck Word Hunt: Create a list of truck-related words (e.g., dump truck, fire truck, tow truck) on separate pieces of paper. Hide the word cards around the room and ask the student to find them. Once they find a word, encourage them to read it aloud and identify the corresponding truck.
- Truck Storytelling: Give the student an opportunity to create their own truck story. Provide them with blank paper and markers or crayons. Encourage them to draw a picture of a truck and then ask them to tell a story about the truck. Write down their story as they narrate it, and then read it back to them. This activity helps develop their storytelling skills and promotes creativity.
