Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and differentiate between bats and spiders, understand basic library skills, and develop a love for reading.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and crayons/markers
  • Books about bats and spiders
  • Access to a library or online library resources
  • Computer or tablet with internet access (optional)

Activities

  1. Introduce the topic of bats and spiders by showing pictures or reading a book about them. Discuss their characteristics and differences.
  2. Take the toddler to a library or use online library resources to find books about bats and spiders. Teach them how to search for books using keywords and how to locate them on the shelves or online.
  3. Encourage the toddler to choose a bat or spider book to borrow or read. Assist them in checking out the book if at a physical library or help them navigate through an online library resource.
  4. Read the chosen book together and discuss the story, facts, and any interesting details about bats or spiders.
  5. After reading, ask the toddler to draw a picture of their favorite bat or spider from the book. Help them label the drawing with the name of the creature.
  6. Display the artwork in a designated reading area or create a mini "bat and spider" gallery.
