Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Coloring supplies
  • Internet access for research (with parent supervision)
  • Optional: Books about government for additional reading

No prior knowledge required, just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm!

Activities

  • Create a Government Tree: Draw a tree and label each branch as Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Research and write down the main responsibilities of each branch.
  • Design Your Own Country: Imagine you are starting a new country. What rules and laws would you create? Draw a flag and write a pledge for your country.
  • Role Play: Act out a scenario where you are the President, a Senator, and a Judge. Discuss the different roles and decisions each one makes.

Talking Points

  • The government is like a big group that helps make rules and decisions for a country. The President is like the leader of the country, and the Senators help make laws. The Judges make sure the laws are fair.
  • Just like in a game, the government has different teams that work together. Each team has its own special job to do.
  • When we create rules, we need to think about what is fair for everyone. It's important to listen to different ideas and work together to make good decisions.
