Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to plan and conduct scientific investigations to answer testable questions, collect and summarize data, and effectively communicate your conclusions.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: notebook, pen, ruler, various household items for experiments.

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the scientific method and be ready to observe, question, and experiment.

Activities

1. Create a hypothesis: Think of a question you want to answer, then make an educated guess about the outcome.

2. Design an experiment: Plan how you will test your hypothesis, what materials you will need, and the steps you will take.

3. Conduct the experiment: Follow your plan, record your observations, and collect data.

4. Analyze data and draw conclusions: Look at your results, summarize what you found, and determine if your hypothesis was supported.

5. Communicate your findings: Create a report or presentation to share your experiment, results, and conclusions with others.

Talking Points

  • "The scientific method is a systematic way to investigate the world around us."
  • "Observation is the first step in the scientific method. What do you notice?"
