Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a sea shell hanging mobile using only sea shells and basic art supplies.

Materials and Prep

  • Assorted sea shells
  • String or fishing line
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Cardboard or thick paper
  • Markers or paints (optional)
  • Hole puncher (optional)

Prior to the lesson, collect a variety of sea shells and cut the cardboard or thick paper into desired shapes for hanging.

Activities

  1. Start by brainstorming different designs for your hanging mobile. Think about how you can arrange the sea shells in an interesting and balanced way.
  2. Once you have a design in mind, begin attaching the sea shells to the cardboard or thick paper using glue. You can also use a hole puncher to create holes in the cardboard and thread the string or fishing line through them to hang the sea shells.
  3. Feel free to get creative and add your own personal touch to the mobile. You can paint or decorate the cardboard shapes before attaching the sea shells, or use markers to add designs directly on the shells.
  4. Once all the sea shells are securely attached, tie strings or fishing line to the top of each cardboard shape and connect them together at different lengths to create a hanging mobile.
  5. Hang your sea shell mobile in a place where it can catch the light and gently move with the breeze. Admire your creation!
