Activity 3: Fraction Hunt - Look around your home for objects that can be divided into fractions. Draw and label them.
Talking Points
- "Fractions are like pieces of a whole. Imagine a pizza cut into slices. Each slice is a fraction."
- "The top number of a fraction is called the numerator. It tells us how many parts we have."
- "The bottom number of a fraction is called the denominator. It tells us how many equal parts the whole is divided into."
- "When the numerator is the same as the denominator, the fraction is equal to 1 whole."
- "Fractions can be added together by finding a common denominator and adding the numerators."
