Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the importance of gardening, identify key plants, and explain the science behind plant growth.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Gardening gloves, small shovel, watering can, plant seeds or seedlings, soil, pots or garden space

Prep: Ensure the gardening area is ready for planting, have all materials organized and ready to use.

Activities

1. Plant Identification: Go on a plant identification walk around the garden or local area. Take notes on the different plants you see.

2. Planting Seeds: Choose a plant to grow from seed. Follow the instructions on the seed packet to plant the seeds in pots or directly in the garden.

3. Soil Investigation: Dig a small hole in the garden and examine the different layers of soil. Discuss the importance of soil for plant growth.
