Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 3-year-old student will be able to understand spatial notions through engaging activities in Art, Foreign Language, Math, Physical Education, and Science.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful construction paper
- Child-safe scissors
- Markers or crayons
- Blank paper
- Small toys or objects for sorting
- Open space for physical activities
No prior knowledge needed.
Activities
- Art: Have the child cut out different shapes from the construction paper and create a collage on the blank paper.
- Foreign Language: Teach the child basic directional words like up, down, left, and right in a fun and interactive way.
- Math: Sort the small toys or objects based on their shapes or colors to introduce the concept of categorization.
- Physical Education: Set up an obstacle course using pillows, cushions, and other safe objects to navigate through while practicing spatial awareness.
- Science: Use a flashlight to create shadows on the wall and have the child explore how moving the light source changes the shape and size of the shadow.
Talking Points
- Art: "Let's cut out shapes like circles and squares to make a colorful collage!"
- Foreign Language: "Can you show me where up and down are? Great job!"
- Math: "Let's put all the red toys in this pile and the blue toys in that pile. Sorting is fun!"
- Physical Education: "Jump over the pillows and crawl under the cushions. You're doing great with the obstacle course!"
- Science: "Look at how the shadow changes when we move the light. Shadows are so cool!"
