Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and name all 50 states of America on a map!
Materials and Prep
- Printed map of the United States
- Coloring pencils or markers
- Enthusiasm and curiosity!
Activities
- Color the States: Print out a map of the United States and color each state a different color. This will help you remember them better!
- Sing Along: Learn a fun song about the 50 states to help you remember them in alphabetical order.
- State Guessing Game: I will describe a state, and you try to guess which one it is on the map!
Talking Points
- Oregon: "Oregon is known for its beautiful forests and rainy weather. It's in the top left corner of the map, next to California!"
- Florida: "Florida is where you can find Disney World and lots of sunny beaches. It looks like a long, skinny peninsula at the bottom of the map!"
- Texas: "Texas is a big state with lots of cowboys and delicious barbecue. It's in the south-central part of the map!"
- New York: "New York is where you can find the Statue of Liberty and tall skyscrapers. It's in the northeast corner of the map!"
- Hawaii: "Hawaii is a group of islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It's all the way to the bottom right of the map!"
