Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will learn about the physics of skateboarding, practice math skills through measuring distances and angles, and engage in physical activities to improve your skateboarding skills.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Skateboard, ruler, protractor, notebook, pen
Prep: Find a safe area for skateboarding, ensure the skateboard is in good condition
Activities
1. Physics of Skateboarding: Experiment with different skateboard designs (longboard vs. skateboard) and observe how they affect speed and stability.
2. Math Challenge: Measure the distance of your skateboard jump and calculate the average speed at which you landed.
3. Physical Education: Practice balancing on the skateboard, learn how to do an ollie or kickflip, and create a mini skateboarding routine.
Talking Points
- Physics of Skateboarding: "Did you know that the shape and size of your skateboard can affect how fast you go and how stable you are while riding?"
- Math Challenge: "Let's measure how far you can jump on your skateboard and calculate how fast you were going when you landed!"
- Physical Education: "Balancing on a skateboard requires core strength and focus. Let's practice different balancing exercises to improve our skills."
