Objective
By the end of this lesson plan, the student will have a better understanding of the Summer 2024 Olympics, Greece & Ancient Greece, Physics of Olympic sports, the muscular system, and France.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, colored pencils, stopwatch, small balls, map of Greece, pictures of Olympic sports, pictures of muscles, French flag.
Prep: Familiarize yourself with basic information about the Summer 2024 Olympics, Greece, Ancient Greece, physics concepts related to sports, and the muscular system. Prepare the activities in advance.
Activities
- Art: Create an Olympic torch using paper and colored pencils. Discuss the significance of the torch relay.
- History: Explore Ancient Greece by drawing a map of Greece and learning about famous Greek gods and goddesses.
- Science: Learn about the muscular system by doing jumping jacks and feeling the muscles at work. Discuss the importance of muscles in sports.
- Physical Education: Practice running races and timing each other with a stopwatch. Talk about the speed and agility needed in Olympic sports.
- Math: Count and sort small balls to represent different Olympic sports. Discuss how math is used in scoring and timing events.
- Music: Listen to traditional French music and try to dance along. Talk about the culture and music of France.
