By the end of this lesson, you will learn about stars and have fun exploring the night sky!

Materials and Prep

  • Flashlight
  • Blanket
  • Star stickers
  • Dark room or outdoor space

No previous knowledge needed, just bring your curiosity!

Activities

  • Star Gazing: Go outside at night with a blanket and flashlight. Lie down and look up at the stars. Try to spot different patterns!
  • Star Stickers: Use the star stickers to create your own constellations on a piece of paper or on a wall in your room.
  • Star Hunt: Hide star stickers around the house and go on a star hunt to find them all!

Talking Points

  • Stars are like twinkling lights in the sky. They are very far away but look beautiful at night. "Stars are like night-time diamonds that sparkle in the sky!"
  • Some stars are big, and some are small. They come in different colors like white, yellow, and red. "Stars can be big or small, just like toys!"
  • When we connect stars in the sky, they form shapes called constellations. People long ago made up stories about these shapes. "Connecting the dots in the sky makes pictures like a big puzzle!"
  • Stars are very hot balls of glowing gas. They give us light and warmth, just like the sun. "Stars are like night-time suns that twinkle for us!"
