Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express themselves through art, language, numbers, music, and science, all while learning about themselves.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: paper, crayons/markers, scissors, glue, a mirror, a toy or photo of themselves, music player, basic counting objects (like blocks), and any items for a mini science experiment (like water and a cup).
Prep: Set up the materials in an organized manner for easy access.
Activities
1. Self Portrait: Have the student look in the mirror and draw a self-portrait using crayons or markers.
2. My Name: Help the student spell out their name using cut-out letters from paper and glue them onto another paper.
3. Counting Fun: Count with the student using blocks or any other counting objects they have.
4. Music Time: Play different types of music and have the student dance or move in response to the music.
5. Sink or Float: Fill a cup with water and have the student guess if different items will sink or float.
Talking Points
- When drawing your self-portrait, say: "This is me! I have (hair color) hair and (eye color) eyes!"
- While spelling out the name, say: "This is how we spell your name, (student's name)!"
- During counting, say: "Let's count together: one, two, three, four, five!"
- For music time, say: "Can you dance like a (animal) to this music? Let's move together!"
- During the sink or float experiment, say: "Will this item sink or float? Let's find out together!"
