Objective
By the end of this lesson, Charlotte will be able to extend her Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary through interactive activities, wide reading, writing, morphological analysis, and generating precise definitions for specific contexts.
Materials and Prep
- Various books or reading materials
- Paper and colored pens
- Dictionary (online or physical)
- Comfortable reading area
No prior knowledge required, just bring your curiosity and creativity!
Activities
- Word Hunt: Choose a book or article to read together. Have Charlotte identify and write down any new or interesting words she finds. Then, look up their definitions and discuss their meanings.
- Word Art: Select a few words from the word hunt and have Charlotte create colorful word art with their definitions written around them. Encourage creativity!
- Word Detective: Present Charlotte with a list of words and ask her to break them down into smaller parts or syllables to understand their meanings better. For example, "unbelievable" can be broken down into "un-" + "believe" + "-able."
- Story Writing: Together, create a short story using the new vocabulary words Charlotte has learned. Encourage her to use the words accurately in context.
