Materials and Prep

Materials needed: paper, colored pencils, and access to a garden or outdoor space.

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the concept of producers in the ecosystem.

Activities

1. Nature Walk: Take a walk in the garden or outdoor space and observe different plants. Identify and discuss the role of plants as producers in providing food and oxygen.

2. Drawing Activity: Have Anisah draw her favorite plant and label it as a producer. Encourage creativity and detail in the drawing.

3. Planting Seeds: Plant seeds in a small pot or garden area. Discuss how plants grow from seeds and the importance of producers in the food chain.

Talking Points

  • Plants are like nature's factories. They make their own food using sunlight, water, and nutrients from the soil. Remember, plants are producers!
  • Just like how we need food to grow and stay healthy, animals and humans rely on plants for food too. Plants are essential for all living things.
  • When you see a tree or a flower, think of them as superheroes that provide oxygen for us to breathe. They take in carbon dioxide and give us fresh air!
  • Have you ever eaten a delicious fruit or vegetable? Thank the plants that produced them. They work hard to give us yummy and nutritious food.
  • Imagine a world without plants. It would be barren and lifeless. That's why we need to appreciate and take care of our plant friends.
