Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a short paragraph about dogs, including basic information and your own thoughts and feelings about them.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or crayons

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a basic understanding of what dogs are and some ideas about what you like or find interesting about them.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Together with your parent or guardian, make a list of words or phrases that come to mind when you think about dogs. These could be things like "friendly," "playful," or "loyal." Write them down on a piece of paper.
  2. Writing a Paragraph: Using the words and phrases from your brainstorming, write a short paragraph about dogs. Start with a topic sentence like "Dogs are amazing animals!" Then, write a few sentences describing what you think is special about dogs and why you like them. Remember to use capital letters and periods at the end of your sentences.
  3. Illustrating Your Paragraph: After writing your paragraph, draw a picture that goes along with it. You can draw a dog or anything else that represents your thoughts and feelings about dogs.
