Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will learn about the parts of a flower and how they help flowers grow and bloom.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: a fresh flower (any kind), magnifying glass (optional)

Prep: Make sure to have a clear workspace and be ready to observe the flower up close.

Activities

1. Flower Observation: Take your flower and carefully examine its different parts. Look at the petals, the stem, and the center of the flower.

2. Petal Counting: Count the number of petals on your flower. Do all flowers have the same number of petals?

3. Pollen Exploration: Gently touch the center of the flower to see if any pollen sticks to your fingers. What does pollen feel like?

Talking Points

  • Flowers have different parts like petals, stem, and center. The petals are usually colorful and attract insects.
  • Plants use their roots to drink water from the soil and their stem to carry water up to the flower.
  • Pollen is a fine powder that helps flowers make seeds. Bees and butterflies help move pollen between flowers.
  • Each flower is unique and beautiful in its own way. Just like how we are all different and special.
