Objective
By the end of this lesson, Audrey will be able to use different forms to suggest the qualities of subject matter in her artwork.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed:
- Paper
- Pencils
- Eraser
- Coloring materials (crayons, colored pencils, markers)
No prior knowledge required, just bring your creativity!
Activities
1. Start by drawing simple shapes (circles, squares, triangles) and turn them into objects by adding details.
2. Practice shading by using different pressures with your pencil to create light and dark areas on your drawings.
3. Experiment with using different forms (3D shapes) to draw objects and make them appear more realistic.
Talking Points
- Shapes can help us create different objects. Remember, a circle can become a ball, a sun, or even a face. "Let's see how many things we can create using just circles!"
- Shading adds depth to our drawings. Light areas are where the light hits, and dark areas are where shadows fall. "Let's make this apple look more realistic by adding shading."
- Forms like cubes, cylinders, and spheres can make our drawings look 3D. "Let's turn this flat drawing of a house into a 3D house by adding some forms."
