  • Pencils and erasers
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
  • Reference images of artworks (can be printed or viewed online)

No prior knowledge is needed for this lesson. Just bring your creativity and imagination!

Activities

  • Artwork Scavenger Hunt: Look at different artworks and try to identify the subject matter and techniques used. Discuss what you find interesting about each piece.
  • Technique Exploration: Experiment with different drawing and coloring techniques in your sketchbook. Try shading, cross-hatching, or blending colors to see how they can enhance your artwork.
  • Create Your Masterpiece: Choose a subject that interests you and create your own artwork using the techniques you've explored. Be creative and have fun!

Talking Points

  • "Art can tell stories without using words. What do you think this painting is trying to tell us?"
  • "Notice how the artist used different colors to create a mood in this artwork. How do the colors make you feel?"
  • "Let's try to recreate this technique the artist used. What happens when we shade lightly versus pressing harder with the pencil?"
  • "Your artwork is unique because it comes from your imagination. What story does your artwork tell?"
