Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and locate different countries in Africa on a map, understand their unique features, and gain a basic understanding of African culture.

Materials and Prep

  • World map or globe
  • Printed outline map of Africa
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Internet access for research

Activities

  1. Introduce Africa as a continent and discuss its size and location in relation to other continents.

  2. Provide the student with the printed outline map of Africa and ask them to label the countries they already know.

  3. Encourage the student to research and learn about one African country of their choice. They should find information about its location, capital city, major landmarks, and cultural aspects.

  4. Once the research is complete, have the student mark the chosen country on the printed map and color it in.

  5. Discuss the student's findings and ask them to share interesting facts about the chosen country with you or their peers.
