Objective

By the end of this lesson, Fletcher will be able to identify different types of sea shells, understand their characteristics, and appreciate their role in marine ecosystems. He will also create a fun display of his favorite shells!

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • A notebook or journal for observations
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (if possible)
  • Outdoor space for a nature walk (optional)

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to have some pictures of different types of sea shells for reference. If possible, gather any real shells that you may have at home to examine.

Activities

  • Shell Identification Game: Using pictures of various sea shells, Fletcher will match the names to the correct images. This will help him learn to identify different types of shells.

  • Shell Art Project: Fletcher will draw his favorite shell from the pictures or any real shells he has. He can use colored pencils or markers to make it colorful and creative.

  • Nature Walk: If possible, go for a walk near a beach or a natural area. Fletcher can look for shells and observe their surroundings. He can take notes in his notebook about what he finds.

  • Shell Facts Presentation: Fletcher will research one type of sea shell and create a mini-presentation. He can share interesting facts about its habitat, size, and any unique features it has.
