Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a clean and organized shared bedroom. They will learn effective cleaning techniques, organization skills, and how to maintain a tidy space that respects both their own and their roommate's belongings.

Materials and Prep

  • Trash bags for garbage
  • Boxes or bins for sorting items
  • Cloth or rag for dusting
  • Time (set aside at least 1-2 hours)
  • Music playlist (optional for fun atmosphere)

Before starting, it’s a good idea to have a discussion with the roommate (if applicable) about what items belong to whom and any specific cleaning preferences they may have.

Activities

  • Declutter Challenge: Set a timer for 15 minutes and see how many items you can declutter. Go through clothes, books, and other belongings, and decide what to keep, donate, or throw away. This will help you understand what you really need in your space.

  • Organize Your Space: After decluttering, use boxes or bins to categorize items. For example, have a box for school supplies, another for personal items, and one for clothes. This will help you find things easily in the future.

  • Dust and Shine: Use a cloth to dust surfaces and clean any mirrors or windows. This will enhance the overall look of your room and create a more pleasant environment.

  • Personal Touch: After cleaning, take some time to personalize your space. Rearrange furniture, add decorations, or hang up photos that make you happy. This will make your room feel more like home.

Talking Points

  • "Keeping a clean space is important because it can help reduce stress and make you feel more relaxed."
  • "Decluttering is not just about getting rid of things; it's about making space for what truly matters to you."

  • "Dusting and cleaning surfaces can help prevent allergies and make your room healthier."
  • "Personalizing your space is a great way to express yourself. Your room should reflect who you are!"
