Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn how to effectively clean and organize their shared bedroom, making it a tidy and pleasant space for everyone. They will understand the importance of cleanliness and develop a routine for maintaining their living area.

Materials and Prep

  • Trash bag
  • Basket or box for items that belong to someone else
  • Cloth for dusting
  • Time to clean (about an hour)

Before starting the lesson, ensure that the student understands the importance of teamwork and communication when sharing a space with someone else. Discuss any specific cleaning rules or preferences that their roommate may have.

Activities

  • Treasure Hunt: Turn cleaning into a game by having a "treasure hunt" for items that need to be put away. Set a timer for 10 minutes and see how many items the student can find and return to their rightful place.
  • Dusting Dance: While dusting surfaces, play some fun music and encourage the student to make it a dance party! They can shake and groove while they clean, making the task more enjoyable.
  • Sorting Challenge: Create a sorting challenge where the student must categorize their items into three groups: keep, donate, and throw away. Give them a set time to complete each category, making it a fun race against the clock!
  • Room Makeover: After cleaning, have the student rearrange their furniture or decorations to give the room a fresh look. This can inspire them to take pride in their space.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think it's important to keep our room clean?" - This helps the student reflect on the benefits of cleanliness.
  • "How do you feel when you walk into a tidy room?" - Encourage them to express their feelings about clean spaces.
  • "What do you think your roommate would appreciate about a clean room?" - This emphasizes teamwork and consideration for others.
  • "Can you think of ways to make cleaning more fun?" - Prompt them to brainstorm creative ideas for future cleaning sessions.
  • "What is one thing you want to do every week to keep our room organized?" - This encourages the student to think about routines they can establish.
