Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn how to effectively clean and organize their bedroom, understand the importance of a tidy space, and develop a sense of responsibility for their belongings.

Materials and Prep

  • A laundry basket or bag for dirty clothes.
  • A box or bin for items that don’t belong in the bedroom.
  • A trash bag for any rubbish or items to throw away.
  • A timer (optional, for timed challenges).

Before the lesson, make sure the student has a clear understanding of what items belong in their bedroom and what should be put away or discarded. Encourage them to think about how they want their space to look.

Activities

  • Clothes Sorting Challenge:

Set a timer for 10 minutes and challenge the student to sort all their clothes into clean and dirty piles. This will help them understand how to manage their laundry and keep their room tidy.

  • Treasure Hunt:

Have the student search for items that don’t belong in their bedroom. They can collect these items in the box or bin to return them to their proper places around the house.

  • Trash Time:

Give the student a trash bag and ask them to pick up any rubbish or items they no longer need. This helps them learn to declutter and make decisions about their belongings.

  • Organizing Fun:

Encourage the student to organize their desk or shelves in a way that makes sense to them. They can group similar items together, which will help them find things more easily in the future.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think it's important to keep your room clean?"
  • "How does a tidy space make you feel? Can you think of a time when you felt good in a clean room?"
  • "What are some items that can be put away right now? Let's make a list!"
  • "How often do you think we should clean our rooms? What works best for you?"
  • "What did you find during the treasure hunt? How can we make sure those items don’t end up in your room again?"
  • "What is your favorite way to organize your things? Let's create a system that works for you!"
  • "How can we make cleaning fun? Maybe we can play some music while we work!"
  • "What is one thing you learned today about cleaning your room?"
