Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • A timer (optional)

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to know some basic facts about Teddy Roosevelt, such as his role as the 26th President of the United States, his love for nature, and his famous quote: "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

Activities

  • Teddy's Timeline

Have the student create a simple timeline of Teddy Roosevelt's life using paper. They can draw pictures or write short descriptions of important events, like when he was born, when he became President, and when he started the National Parks.

  • Nature Explorer

Encourage the student to go outside and explore nature like Teddy Roosevelt did. They can collect leaves, flowers, or interesting rocks and then create a nature collage using the materials prepared.

  • Roosevelt's Big Stick Speech

Have the student pretend to be Teddy Roosevelt giving a speech. They can practice saying his famous quote, "Speak softly and carry a big stick," and then make up their own speech about something they care about.
