By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the main characters and themes of The Lion King, and will be able to express their thoughts about friendship, bravery, and family through creative activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • A comfortable space to sit and draw
  • A quiet area for storytelling

Before the lesson, it’s helpful to have a brief discussion about the movie and its characters. If the student has seen The Lion King, encourage them to think about their favorite scenes or characters.

Activities

  • Character Drawing:

The student will choose their favorite character from The Lion King and draw them. Encourage them to use lots of colors and to think about what makes that character special.

  • Storytelling Time:

Have the student retell their favorite part of The Lion King. They can use their drawing as a prop to help tell the story. Ask questions to help them elaborate on the details.

  • Bravery and Friendship Discussion:

Discuss the themes of bravery and friendship in the movie. Ask the student to think about how Simba shows bravery and how he values his friends. They can share their own stories about being brave or helping a friend.
