Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of the 2024 Paris Olympics through various subjects, including Art, English, Foreign Language, History, Math, Music, Physical Education, Science, and Social Studies. The student will create a mini-project that showcases their learning and interests related to the Olympics.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • Access to the internet for research
  • Notebook for notes and reflections
  • Timer for physical activities
  • Musical instrument (if available) or access to music online

Before the lesson, the student should have a basic understanding of the Olympics and some popular sports included in the games. They should also be familiar with basic math concepts such as addition and statistics.

Activities

  • Art: Olympic Logo Creation

    The student will design their own Olympic logo using symbols that represent their values or interests. They can use colors and shapes to express what the Olympics means to them.

  • English: Olympic Athlete Biography

    The student will choose an Olympic athlete to research and write a short biography about. They will focus on the athlete's background, achievements, and what inspires them.

  • Foreign Language: Olympic Vocabulary

    The student will learn and write down key Olympic-related vocabulary in a foreign language of their choice (e.g., French, Spanish). They can practice pronunciation and use these words in sentences.

  • History: The Evolution of the Olympics

    The student will create a timeline showing the history of the Olympics, highlighting important events and changes from the ancient games to the modern era.

  • Math: Medal Count Statistics

    The student will analyze past Olympic medal counts from different countries and create bar graphs or pie charts to represent the data visually.

  • Music: Olympic Anthem

    The student will listen to the Olympic Anthem and discuss its significance. If possible, they can try to play it on an instrument or create their own Olympic-themed song.

  • Physical Education: Mini Olympics

    The student will set up a mini-Olympics in their backyard or living room, including events like a sprint, long jump, or obstacle course. They can time themselves and keep score.

  • Science: The Physics of Sports

    The student will explore how physics plays a role in sports by researching concepts like gravity, force, and motion, and how they affect athletic performance.

  • Social Studies: Global Unity through Sports

    The student will discuss how the Olympics promote global unity and peace. They can create a poster showing different countries participating in the games.
