Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to spell words related to songs and demonstrate understanding of their meanings.

Materials and Prep

  • Whiteboard or paper
  • Markers or pencils

Activities

  1. Song Spelling Bee:

Choose a song that you enjoy and write down the lyrics on the whiteboard or paper, leaving out some of the words. Have your parent or guardian read out the missing words and challenge you to spell them correctly. If you get stuck, you can ask for hints or clues. Keep track of how many words you spell correctly and try to improve your score each time you play.

  2. Song Scramble:

Think of a song that you like and write down the lyrics on separate pieces of paper, but scramble the letters of each word. Mix up the papers and challenge yourself to unscramble the words and put them back in the correct order. You can use the original lyrics as a reference if you need help.

  3. Song Spelling Story:

Choose a song that tells a story and write down the lyrics on the whiteboard or paper. Read the lyrics together with your parent or guardian and identify any words that are unfamiliar to you. Look up the meanings of those words and discuss how they contribute to the story of the song. Practice spelling those words aloud and try to use them in your own sentences.
