Materials and Prep

  • Colored paper (preferably blue, yellow, and green)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors (for adult use only)
  • Glue
  • Small container or bowl for water (to represent the ocean)
  • A comfortable space to sit and create

Before the lesson, gather all materials in one place and ensure the student is in a comfortable environment to learn and create.

Activities

  • Beach Scene Creation:

The student will use colored paper to create a beach scene. They can cut out waves from blue paper, a sun from yellow paper, and palm trees from green paper. This activity encourages creativity and fine motor skills.

  • Animal Exploration:

Discuss some animals found in the Bahamas, like dolphins and iguanas. The student can draw their favorite Bahamian animal and share fun facts about it.

  • Water Play:

Fill a small container with water to represent the ocean. The student can use small toys or objects to play in the "ocean," simulating a day at the beach and exploring marine life.

  • Dance to Bahamian Music:

Play some traditional Bahamian music and have a dance party! The student can learn a simple dance move or just move freely to the music, celebrating the lively culture of the Bahamas.
