Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize, sound out, and write the letter A, as well as identify words that begin with the letter A. The student will also engage in fun activities that reinforce their understanding of the letter A.

Materials and Prep

  • Knowledge of the alphabet and sounds of letters

Activities

  • Letter A Sound Game:

    Start by making the sound of the letter A. Encourage the student to repeat it after you. Then, have fun by coming up with other words that start with A, like "apple" and "ant." You can clap your hands every time you say a word that starts with A!

  • Letter A Art:

    Draw the letter A on a piece of paper and encourage the student to trace it with their finger. Then, let them use a crayon to color the letter A. They can also draw pictures of things that start with A, like an apple or an alligator!

  • Letter A Dance:

    Play some fun music and create a little dance that includes movements that start with A, like "arms up" or "aeroplane." This will help the student remember the letter while having fun!
