Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of the Yangtze River in China, including its geographical features, cultural significance, and the wildlife that lives in and around it.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or crayons
- A map of China (can be drawn or printed)
- Access to a computer or tablet for research (if applicable)
- Time to watch a short video about the Yangtze River (optional)
Before the lesson, it might be helpful to have a brief overview of China and its major rivers to give context to the Yangtze River.
Activities

Draw the Yangtze River:
Using the map of China, the student can draw the Yangtze River, marking important cities and landmarks along its path. This will help them visualize where the river flows.

Create a Wildlife Poster:
The student can choose one or two animals that live in or near the Yangtze River, such as the Yangtze giant softshell turtle or the Chinese sturgeon, and create a poster with drawings and fun facts about these animals.

Storytime - The Journey of the Yangtze:
The student can create a short story about a drop of water traveling down the Yangtze River, experiencing the different landscapes and wildlife along the way. This will encourage creativity and storytelling skills.

If a video is available, watch a short documentary about the Yangtze River. After watching, discuss what they learned and what they found most interesting.
