Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create their own Seek and Find puzzles, enhance their observation skills, and enjoy the satisfaction of solving puzzles they designed themselves.

Materials and Prep

  • Plain paper
  • Pencil or colored markers
  • Timer (optional)

Before the lesson, make sure to find a comfortable and quiet space for the student to work. It may also be helpful to have some examples of Seek and Find puzzles for inspiration.

Activities

  • Explore Existing Puzzles:

Start by looking at some Seek and Find puzzles together. Discuss what makes them fun and challenging. Ask the student to point out different items they can find in the puzzles.

  • Create Your Own Puzzle:

Have the student draw a simple scene on a piece of paper, such as a park, a beach, or a zoo. Then, together, brainstorm a list of items to hide within the scene. Once they draw the items, they can challenge a family member to find them!

  • Timed Challenge:

Set a timer and see how many items the student can find in a given time frame within their created puzzle or an existing one. This adds excitement and a little competition!

  • Swap Puzzles:

If there are other family members, have everyone create a puzzle and then swap them to see who can solve each other's puzzles the fastest!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think makes a puzzle fun to solve?"
  • "Can you think of some items that are easy to find and some that are tricky?"
  • "How can we make our puzzle more challenging for someone else?"
  • "Let’s look at this puzzle together. What do you notice first?"
  • "How does drawing the scene help us think of where to hide the items?"
  • "Are you ready for a challenge? Let’s see how many items you can find in one minute!"
  • "What was your favorite part about creating your own Seek and Find puzzle?"
