Objective
By the end of this lesson, Maxwell will understand the life cycle of chickens, including the stages from egg to chick to adult chicken. He will also be able to explain each stage in his own words!
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Access to a comfortable reading area
- Optional: A timer for activities
Before the lesson, make sure to find a quiet space where Maxwell can focus and be creative. You may want to have some fun chicken facts ready to share!
Activities
-
Story Time:
Read a fun story about chickens or find a simple book about their life cycle. After reading, ask Maxwell what he thought was the most interesting part of the story.
-
Life Cycle Drawing:
Have Maxwell draw the life cycle of a chicken. He can create a circle with arrows showing the stages: egg, chick, and adult chicken. Encourage him to add colors and details!
-
Act It Out:
Maxwell can pretend to be a chicken at different stages. For example, he can curl up small like an egg, flap his arms like a chick, and then strut around like a big chicken. This will help him remember the stages through movement!
-
Chicken Facts:
Share some fun facts about chickens and their life cycle. Maxwell can choose his favorite fact to share with someone else later!
