Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of different art forms, including drawing, painting, and sculpture. The student will also create their own simple artwork, applying the techniques learned during the session.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper (any type will work)
  • Pencils or pens
  • Colored pencils, markers, or crayons
  • Optional: Recyclable materials (like cardboard, bottle caps, etc.) for sculpture
  • Access to a computer or tablet for researching art styles (optional)

Before the lesson, make sure to gather all materials and have a clean, well-lit workspace ready for creativity!

Activities

  • Art Style Exploration:

    Start by researching different art styles such as Impressionism, Cubism, or Surrealism. Choose one style to focus on and discuss its characteristics and famous artists.

  • Drawing Exercise:

    Using the chosen art style as inspiration, create a drawing that reflects its characteristics. Encourage the student to experiment with shapes, colors, and techniques.

  • Colorful Creations:

    Using colored pencils, markers, or crayons, the student can add color to their drawing. Discuss color theory basics, such as primary and secondary colors, and how they can be used to convey emotions.

  • 3D Sculpture Project:

    Using recyclable materials, the student can create a simple sculpture. Encourage them to think about balance, form, and texture.
