Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand basic counting and simple addition using their favorite Hot Wheels cars. They will learn to count how many cars they have and practice adding them together in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
- Hot Wheels cars (at least 5 different cars)
- A flat surface to play on (like a table or the floor)
- Optional: A piece of paper and a crayon for drawing cars
Before the lesson, make sure to gather all the Hot Wheels cars and find a comfortable play area where the student can easily access and play with the cars.
Activities
-
Counting Cars:
Start by having the student line up their Hot Wheels cars in a row. Help them count each car one by one, encouraging them to say the numbers out loud. This will help them practice their counting skills.
-
Car Addition:
Once the student has counted their cars, introduce simple addition. For example, ask them to group two cars together and then add three more cars. Help them count the total number of cars together. You can say, "If we have 2 cars and we add 3 more, how many do we have now?"
-
Drawing Cars:
Encourage the student to draw their favorite Hot Wheels car on a piece of paper. As they draw, ask them to count the wheels, windows, and any other features, reinforcing their counting skills.
Talking Points
- "Can you show me how many cars you have? Let's count them together!"
- "If we have 1 red car and we add 1 blue car, how many cars do we have now?"
- "How many wheels do you think your car has? Let's count them!"
- "What color is your favorite car? Can you draw it and tell me how many wheels it has?"
