Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recount a trip they took by describing what they saw, did, and felt during the experience. They will learn how to organize their thoughts and share their story in a fun and engaging way.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colored pencils or crayons
- A comfortable place to sit and talk
- A timer (optional, for timed activities)
Before the lesson, think of a trip you want to talk about. It can be a trip to the zoo, the beach, or even a visit to a friend's house! Remember the fun things you did and how you felt during the trip.
Activities
- Story Circle: Sit together and take turns sharing one fun thing about the trip. This will help the student get used to talking about their experience and listening to others.
- Draw Your Favorite Moment: Ask the student to draw their favorite part of the trip. This helps them visualize their memories and express their feelings through art.
- Memory Map: Create a simple map of the trip. Use drawings or symbols to represent different places visited. This can help the student organize their thoughts and see the journey they took.
- Act It Out: Encourage the student to act out a funny or exciting moment from the trip. This makes the recounting more lively and fun!
Talking Points
- "What was your favorite place we visited? Can you tell me why you liked it?"
- "How did you feel when we saw that big animal? Can you show me your face when you saw it?"
- "What was the funniest thing that happened? Can you make a silly face like you did then?"
- "Did we try something new on this trip? What was it and did you like it?"
- "If you could go back to one place we visited, which one would it be? Why?"
- "Can you tell me your story in three parts: what happened first, next, and last?"
