Objective
By the end of this lesson, Michael will learn about hockey, including its basic rules, how to play, and some fun facts about the sport. He will also engage in physical activities that mimic hockey skills.
Materials and Prep
- Open space for activities (like a living room or backyard)
- A soft ball (to represent a hockey puck)
- Two small items (like cushions or toys) to serve as goals
- Optional: A hockey stick (or something similar) for fun
Make sure the area is safe and clear for running and playing. Review some basic hockey rules and terminology beforehand to share with Michael.
Activities
-
Hockey Dribble:
Michael can practice dribbling the soft ball around the room using his feet or a stick. Set up some obstacles (like toys) for him to maneuver around!
-
Goal Scoring:
Using the two small items as goals, Michael can take turns trying to score by getting the ball into the goals. Celebrate each goal with a cheer!
-
Hockey Rules Storytime:
Gather together and read a simple story about hockey or make up a fun story involving Michael as a hockey player. Include basic rules like "No hands!" and "Keep the puck in play!"
-
Hockey Dance Party:
Play some upbeat music and have a "hockey dance party!" Michael can dance like a hockey player, pretending to skate and shoot the puck!
