Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the color wheel, including primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. They will be able to create their own color wheel and use it to mix colors effectively in their projects.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind will do)
- Colored pencils, crayons, or markers (any colors available)
- Ruler (optional, for neatness)
- Pencil
- Eraser
Before the lesson, ensure the student has a clear workspace. It's also helpful to have a basic understanding of colors and how they relate to each other.
Activities
-
Color Wheel Creation:
The student will draw a large circle on their paper and divide it into 12 equal sections. They will label and color in the primary colors (red, blue, yellow), secondary colors (green, orange, purple), and tertiary colors (like red-orange, yellow-green, etc.).
-
Color Mixing Experiment:
Using their colored pencils, the student will experiment with mixing primary colors to create secondary colors. They can write down the combinations they used and see how many different shades they can create!
-
Color Hunt:
The student will go on a color hunt around the house or outside, finding objects that match the colors on their color wheel. They can take pictures or draw the objects they find!
-
Creative Color Story:
The student will write a short story or create a comic using at least three colors from their color wheel. They should think about how colors can represent different feelings or ideas in their story.
