Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of a famous Icelandic person, their contributions to society, and the cultural significance of their work. The student will also enhance their research and presentation skills through engaging activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for note-taking
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research (if available)
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, paper) for creative activities
  • List of famous Icelandic figures (pre-prepared by the teacher)
  • Timer for activity management

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with a few famous Icelandic figures, such as Halldór Laxness, Björk, or Jónsi. This will help guide the student in their research and discussion.

Activities

  • Research Project:

    The student will choose a famous Icelandic person from the provided list and conduct a brief research project. They will summarize their findings in a short paragraph, focusing on the person's achievements and impact on Icelandic culture.

  • Creative Presentation:

    The student will create a poster or digital presentation about their chosen figure. This should include images, key facts, and interesting trivia. Encourage them to be creative and make it visually appealing!

  • Role-Playing Interview:

    The student will prepare a list of interview questions they would like to ask their chosen figure. They will then role-play both the interviewer and the famous person, answering the questions as if they were that figure. This will help them understand the person's perspective and contributions better.
